Board of Management Update

The Board has had a strong focus on managing key priorities over the past 12 months, including the continued financial viability, continuing to monitor and manage risks resulting from the transition to the NDIS and ensuring that the organisation's reputation and high quality service standard is maintained.  In addition to managing these wider key priorities, through the year the Board has also focused its attention on strategic planning in relation to the development of an IT strategy and engagement of a patron for Sharing Places.   The expertise and vision of the Board has been a key success factor for Sharing Places, and will continue to provide strong governance over the next 12 months.

Sharing Places would like to extend a big thank you to outgoing members, Pieta Manning and Tony Curtis.  Although Pieta's time on the Board was short, her contribution was very much appreciated and we wish her well in her future endeavours.  Tony has been on the Board since 2005 and has made an enormous contribution to the organisation as Treasurer, and all for the small cost of a monthly fix of sausage rolls!  Sharing Places wishes to extend Tony our sincere thanks and best wishes for the future.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Update

The NDIS is currently in Stage 2, which is the transition stage.  Here in the ACT, we also experienced Stage 1 being the trial stage.  We are the only jurisdiction in Stage 1 that rolled out the NDIS to the entire population, with all other trial jurisdictions only rolling out the NDIS to pockets of the population (ie, children).  This transition stage to full scheme is, unfortunately, having some negative impacts for participants, families and service providers.  We are once again having to provide evidence of support needs and risk.  During this transition stage, it's more important than ever to ensure that you are well prepared for plan reviews.  Sharing Places has many documents that can assist you with your plan reviews, but we won't necessarily know when your plan reviews are being held and the NDIA won't ask us for any evidence.  So, please be prepared and plan early.  Please speak to your Team or Program Coordinator for a copy of these important documents.
